Congressman Mike Ferguson
Congressman Mike Ferguson represents New Jersey’s 7th District in the U.S. House of Representatives. First elected in 2000 for the
107th Congress (2001-2002), Congressman Ferguson is now serving in his second term in the 108th Congress (2003-2004).
Congressman Ferguson serves on the House Energy and Commerce Committee, which has wide jurisdiction over the health care,
telecommunications and energy industries. Created more than two centuries ago, the Commerce Committee is the oldest legislative
standing committee in the House. It also enjoys the broadest legislative responsibility of any House panel, including
telecommunications, consumer protection, food and drug safety, public health, air quality and environmental health, the supply and
delivery of energy, and interstate and foreign commerce.
Before entering the House, Congressman Ferguson was an educator and small business owner. He founded an educational consulting
firm that advocated school reform and scholarship programs. He also served as Adjunct Instructor of Political Science at Brookdale
Community College in Lincroft, New Jersey.
A graduate of Delbarton School in New Jersey, Ferguson attended the University of Notre Dame where he received a bachelor’s
degree in government. After graduation, he taught history and coached basketball at Mount St. Michael Academy in the Bronx, New
York.
Congressman Ferguson later received a master’s of public policy degree with a specialization in education policy from Georgetown
University in Washington, DC. He also served as Executive Director of the Catholic Campaign for America.
On Capitol Hill, Congressman Ferguson focuses on reducing taxes for every taxpayer, strengthening our schools, working with
President Bush to protect our families following the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks and protecting the environment.
Born and raised in New Jersey, Congressman Ferguson and his wife, Maureen, have three young children. They reside in
Somerset County.
Congressman Ferguson was born on July 22, 1970.
